2 Quick Stories: JetBlue Anchorage Fares and LAN Reduces Lima – Easter Island

Two very quick ones:

– JetBlue is offering $119 fares between Seattle and Anchorage to promote its new service between the cities. Fares are good May 16 – June 26th.

– LAN is eliminating its Lima – Easter Island Service between April 7th and October 30th. Readers always have questions about getting to Easter Island using miles…(You can read some info I’ve written about Easter Island here).

  1. Your report was quite helpful in formulating my own visit to Easter Island and — because of the lack of practical resources — I started a thread on flyertalk to help folks plan a visit.

The only real downside to losing the Lima service is that it prevents Americans from avoiding Chile’s nasty “reciprocal” entrance fee (when you switch planes in Santiago, you’ll now have to pay). Otherwise, you could have flown USA, Lima, Easter Island, Santiago, Patagonia, Santiago, USA and never paid to enter Chile.

That’s also a very good fare to ANC, and Memorial Day/Early June is a somewhat surprisingly good time to visit Alaska. Weather up there is unpredictable, but I’ve had better weather at Memorial Day than in July — with far fewer tourists.

But unless you live in SEA, you’re better off just redeeming miles to go from your hometown to Alaska It’s only 25,000 miles roundtrip in coach. A steal. Availability is dicey, but if you plan ahead (like now) you can usually find seats — especially if your airline partners with Alaska (which has pretty decent award inventory from SEA to points north).

    • Great points.

Also most flights to Alaska from the lower 48 on Alaska Airlines can be had for 20,000 Avios points round trip. An intra-Alaska flights are 4,500 Avios points each way.
