Lufthansa to Introduce Premium Economy on Long-Haul Fleet…Eventually

I just received a press release from Lufthansa announcing that they will be rolling out a Premium Economy section on their long-haul fleet in about 2 years. I’m sure someone will correct me, but I believe they will join LOT and SAS as the only Star Alliance airlines offering Premium Economy across the Atlantic (and who knows if SAS will still be with us in 2 years). They give basically no other details, but Premium Economy is always a great option, even if you can’t currently book it using United miles on other airlines.

In case you were wondering, here’s the release:

Lufthansa is expanding its product portfolio and will equip the entire Lufthansa long-haul fleet with a Premium Economy. The Supervisory Board has approved the investment capital for the introductory project to achieve this. At the beginning of next year, a project group will be formed to manage the introduction and define the precise features of the product as well as a detailed timetable.

Premium Economy will be installed on the entire intercontinental fleet. This substantially upgraded Economy product will fill the gap between the superior Business Class segment, which features a seat that can be converted into a fully flat bed, on one side and the classic Economy Class on the other. This will appeal to both leisure travelers seeking additional comfort and business travelers.

  1. Turkish has “Comfort Class” which is kind of like a PE product. But they’re taking that out over the next year or two …

  2. Also, does NZ have PE on their LAX-LHR route?
