Air Asia X to Launch Child-Free “Quiet Zone” in February 2013

Air Asia X (Air Asia’s long-haul arm) will launch a child-free Quiet Zone section on its A330s beginning in February 2013. The airline will designate the first 8 rows of coach as the quiet zone, adding mood lighting and requesting that passengers keep all noise to a minimum (like the quiet car on Amtrak’s Acela, the happiest 3 hours of my day any time I take it…). To that end, no passengers under the age of 12 will be allowed to sit in the section.

Passengers will not need to pay extra for the child-free seats, beyond the normal $11 fee to pre-reserve a seat on the plane ($35 for extra legroom seats).
