I’ll be honest, I’m just passing this along because I was in Gold Coast, Australia a couple of months ago: Qantas will resume service to Gold Coast (OOL) following a 5 year absence. Gold Coast is a beach destination (something like Ft. Myers or Tampa, I guess), and, as you might imagine, a pretty low yield market. Jetstar and Virgin Australia serve the market effectively with their low cost model.
I have no idea why Qantas feels the need to return there with a handful of flights to Sydney and Melbourne, as Jetstar and VA have flights pretty much constantly throughout the day.
Qantas will take over Jetstar’s lounge in the airport.
