I’m actually not sure if this is new news or not, but American Airlines will eliminate its first class product on all aircraft except the 10 777-300ERs that it will be receiving beginning later this year. Those aircraft will fly to London and Sao Paulo. American believes those are currently the only markets where a 3-cabin layout makes financial sense.
AA will eliminate the 16 first class seats in its 47 777-200s and in its place, they’ll put 45 lie-flat business class seats (whenever the hell they get around to doing that). They also fly 15 767-200s in a 3-class configuration. Some of those planes will be retired, and others will be retrofitted with the new lie-flat business class seats. (When? Eventually.)
With United (eventually) eliminating first class from its transcon PS service, it makes sense for AA to eliminate first class from its (primarily) transcon 767-200 flights.
