United Explorer Card: Now Easy 55,000 Miles + $50 Statement Credit

I’ve been traveling a bit, so forgive me if others have beaten me to writing about this:

There is now a United Explorer credit card offer where you get 50,000 miles after first purchase; 5,000 miles for adding an authorized user to the card; plus a $50 statement credit. This is the first offer I’ve seen with the 50k miles PLUS the statement credit.

$95 annual fee is waived the first year. You must have some miles in your Mileage Plus account to be able to see this offer. Also, if you’ve had any United credit cards in the past, you won’t get the bonus.

Application here.

  1. Wait – any?

If I had the old-school UA Chase Visa in 2007 which I canceled long-ago, I won’t get this bonus?

  2. I rec’d the following email response 2 months ago from Chase (I have a no fee UA MP Gold with Chase and had just cancelled my CO Visa:

    “Dear James,

If you have not received an enrollment bonus for the Mileage Plus Visa Explorer in the past you would be eligible for bonus with new application,

I was approved last week for the MP explorer and confirmed the bonus match up from the 40k offer when I meet my min. spend.
