South African Airways to Drop Cape Town – London Service

South African Airways announced that it will drop its nonstop Cape Town – London service beginning in August. Those wishing to fly SAA to Cape Town will now have to fly through Johannesburg on their twice-daily service.

CPT-LHR has been in service for 20 years, but travel between South Africa and Britain has dropped by 24% over the past 3 years as a greater number of European carriers now fly nonstop to CPT, eliminating the need to connect through London to get to onward destinations in Europe.

SAA will re-deploy the aircraft on routes to West Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.
