Mexicana Airlines, which shut down 2 years ago, has been purchased by airline and hotel holding company Med Atlantica, which hopes to re-launch the airline in June.
Mexicana still needs to negotiate payments to employees and other debtholders and obtain an operating certificate before they can re-launch. However, they have already begun training 280 pilots to fly 9 aircraft in June.
Mexicana is considered an inactive member of Oneworld alliance – no world on whether they will rejoin the group officially once they begin flying again.
Med Atlantica has a large stake in Canada’s Air Transat.
