New PeoplExpress Somehow Manages to Get Fined by DoT Already

The new incarnation of PeoplExpress Airlines, which is praying that they will be able to make it as a lowfare carrier flying out of Newport News, Virginia, was fined $10,000 by the US Department of Transportation for advertising before actually being given a certificate to allow them to fly.

The carrier had been promoting its “Club Travelati” (which will apparently offer discounts of some sort), which is a no-no if you don’t have government clearance to operate an airline.

Given their business plan, this fine will be the least of their worries.
