Direct Air, which flies between a bunch of cities in the northeast & midwest to Florida & Myrtle Beach, has announced its Way2Go Club, which allows members to fly any of their routes for $179 round trip, any day of the year with no blackout dates.
Members who pay $49.95, also get reduced fees for checking bags, seat selection, and some other stuff. But the subscription model is an interesting one. Will Direct Air be around be around in a year? Dunno. But they’ve been around since 2006, so that’s a good sign.
If you’re an airline nerd, you may know Direct Air as the airline that took Virgin America’s A319 and A320s off their hands while they struggled to get launched a few years ago.
In any case, if you’re someone with a house in Florida and another residence in a Direct Air city, it’s a good deal – hell, for $179 with no blackout dates, it’d be worth joining for that one trip over Christmas.
(And no, I have no idea what they’re referring to when they say “Goodbye ‘family ties'” on their site. Nor do I have any idea what they’re alluding to when they say “no more forms to fill out” when talking about booking a flight. Just pretend it doesn’t say either of those things.)
