Yes, fine, I know that everyone is writing the same thing about Amex increasing their bonus payout to 25,000 Membership Rewards points (from 10,000) after $2,000 spend in 3 months. Fine. Every blogger is writing the same crap.
In short: 3x points on airfare, 2x points on gas and groceries, first year fee waived. Is it the same as the 50k points or 75k points we saw last year? No. But is this as good as it’s going to get this year? Probably.
If you’ve been holding out on the PRG card for more than the previous 10k points deal, this is a good one. And where else will you get 25,000 Membership Rewards points for no annual fee? Answer: nowhere.
(Yes, the OTR is eligible for an affiliate payout on this deal…but of course I would never mention it if it weren’t the best offer out there for the PRG Gold card.)
Also, prepare for Chase Sapphire Blogger Hysteria (TM). We blogger types got a note today saying we should change how we refer to the Sapphire card as Chase Sapphire Preferred (SM) instead of Chase Sapphire (SM) Preferred. Obviously, that means they are changing the bonus from 50,000 points to 175 points. Or it means that they’re going to raise it to, Dear God help me here, 100,000 points. Or it means nothing. But I think it’s important to get people as freaked out as possible. So sell the children, mortgage the house, eat your vegetables, because the Sapphire card now has its SM at the end, not in the middle.
