Malev May Shut Down as Soon as Today

Hungary’s national airline, Malev, may face a shutdown as soon as today, as the airline has been unable to raise additional funds to keep the operation afloat.

A European Commission told the airline that it had to re-pay government subsidies (roughly equal to its total 2010 revenue), a move that will likely put the final nail in the coffin of the carrier, which has been flying since 1946.

This isn’t great news for Oneworld, which will likely lose a link to Central Europe.

  1. What would this mean if I have a Oneworld award ticket with a Malev leg?
