For those of us who focus on Starwood hotels, one annoying thing is that even at their lower end hotels they don’t offer free breakfast to everyone. It looks like they now may be re-considering (sort of): Through the end of the year at Four Points hotels in the US, they’re doing a “Four for Free” package that offers free wi-fi, free breakfast, free appetizer and free bottled water when you book their best available rate. Or that should be “best available rate” because, strangely enough, the “best available rate” is not the best rate available.
Picking a hotel at random, the Four Points Tucson Airport has rooms for $139 as their “best available rate” (you’ll get the four for free there). However, they also have a pre-paid rate (which is actually their best rate available) for $120. Yes, I know, some people can’t use the pre-paid non-refundable rate because their plans are up in the air. Understood. In that case, the Four for Free deal is great – you’ll pay the regular rate and get all that stuff that you get for free at a ton of other hotels (including some of the lower-end brands in the Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott programs).
Just know, though, that cheaper rates are often available if you can pre-pay.
