Allegiant to Increase Seats on Its MD-80s

Low cost juggernaut Allegiant will be increasing the number of seats in its MD-80s from 150 to 166, a feat they will accomplish not through magic (nor, apparently, going all Spirit on us by jamming seats closer together), but rather by removing galleys that aren’t being used.  The increase will necessitate a 4th flight attendant, though the additional seats should more than pay for the new staff.  The airline says they will increase their available seats by 11%, while lowering the cost per seat.
