Australian low-fare carrier Jetstar announced that it will begin renting iPads for in-flight entertainment use on intra-Australia flights later in June. The devices will rent for AUD$10 (about $8.50) and will be equipped with a full range of entertainment provided by Bluebox Avionics (as noted here). For airlines that currently don’t offer a wide range of in-flight entertainment, the iPad offers a pretty affordable and low-maintenance way to offer a great in-flight product. I would not be surprised to see low-fare carriers rolling this out around the world. I’m sure all airlines will be watching this closely.
