2009 Could be Rough: Delta Shelves Raleigh-Paris, Gothenberg Before Launch

Jan 2nd, 2009 | By Jared Blank

About a month ago I wondered how Delta could possibly launch new flights it had announced between Raleigh and Paris.  The answer?  The couldn’t.  Delta said it would not launch the Raleigh-Paris flights as scheduled.  Nor would they launch service to Gothenberg (sorry, Marcus!), and they are canceling JFK- Buenos Aires and a second flight from JFK to Tel Aviv.  2009 is going to be all about whether airlines can shrink themselves into profitability.  It’s certainly possible, and it will require smart, proactive action like Delta is taking.
