50 Protesters Get on Stansted Runway, Shut Down Airport (Don’t Worry, They’re Not Terrorists)

In an absolutely unbelievable breach of security, 50 climate change protesters cut through a fence at Stansted Airport outside London and chained themselves to a fence, yards from a runway. As you might imagine, this disrupted service to the airport. As you may not have imagined, it caused the cancellation of dozens of flights, stranding thousands of passengers. Because it’s the busy holiday season, many of the displaced passengers could not be re-accommodated, causing a bit of mayhem at the airport (see photo in linked story). If you’re flying out of Stansted today or tomorrow, I’d check with the airline.
