Indonesia Plane Crash Kills 23

In an event that’s becoming all-too-frequent, a 737 crashed in Indonesia yesterday, killing 23 passengers.  The Gardua aircraft overshot the runway on landing, possibly because a tire blew out (video available here).

Indonesian airlines have had several crashes in the past year or so, causing the government to ban its airlines from flying aircraft more than 10 years old.  This basically accomplishes nothing, as aircraft more than 10 years old are no less safe than newer aircraft if they are properly maintained.
