3 Year Old Kicked Off Flight for Crying

(Thanks to blog DC Night Out for the heads up)

Every time you’ve been on a plane with a screaming child you’ve probably thought to yourself, "Gee, couldn’t they just drag the little brat off the plane?"  Well, it actually happened, and it wasn’t nearly as satisfying as you’d have hoped.

A 3-year old traveling with her parents from Ft. Myers to Boston was kicked off the flight by an AirTran employee after she threw a bit of a fit before takeoff.  Really.  That’s it.  3-year old throws tantrum, employee comes on board and says girl has to leave.  AirTran realizes that this was not a particularly nice thing to do, as there’s not much you can do if your kid is screaming like that except wait it out, and has refunded the airfare to the family.  They’ve also apologized.  Which is nice.

  1. Now if we can only kick off adults for whining.

  2. Thumbs up to AirTran — and this family’s response is outrageous given that AirTran overcompensated them for removing them from the first flight. I’m the parent of an autistic boy who has flown with me several times. I understand that as part of the big picture of flying, should he happen to have a meltdown when the plane leaves, we very well could be asked to leave. While I’m also able to keep him calm in those situations, if I couldn’t I wouldn’t argue with leaving and trying again… that’s life… deal with it!… and these people should deal with the issue that they can’t strap in their 3-yr old.

  3. Jp needs to lighten up. Kids will be kids and others need to understand.

  4. I agree with dr. I know I gots chillens all over town and I can’t be expected to control em all

  5. Franklin’s always saying things whitey isn’t ready to hear.

  6. Oh, it was just as satisfying as I hoped. I hate the fact that people with children think they’re better and can get away with anything just because they have a little one. Give me a break. I applaud the airline, and I wish all airlines would follow suit. I’d rather ride with a terrorist than a monster like this little brat.

  7. Bravo to airline. The screaming brat had already delayed the flight by 15 minutes and the parents could still not keep their child under control. Why should everyone else on the plane have to suffer for one child’s whims? Granted, children are children and will misbehave at times, but to delay an entire flight for one is completely ridiculous. As for DR’s suggestion, I agree that tolerance is important, but bending over backwards (like delaying a flight!)is absurd.

  8. I have no problem with crying children on flights. They don’t really bother me. But also…

    1. I always bring earplugs with me on flights. Sometimes I have my MP3 player with me.

    2. I love hearing people moan and complain about the child crying. It’s funny!

  9. All I have to say is wow. Tammy has posted the most ignorant comments I have ever read. You were three years old at one point in your life (it appears nothing has changed to this date)..and I bet you weren’t exactly a saint. And please do us all a favor and ride with a terrorist….PLEASE!!!
