Happy New Year.
Here’s a quick roundup of the stories we missed while the OTR was closed for the holidays.
–Virgin America was denied its application to fly in the US. It will appeal the ruling. Really stinks for the 169 employees waiting for the airline to start flying.
–An idiot on a flight from DC to Ft. Myers got drunk and threw a punch as the passenger next to him. Turns out the passenger next to him was an air marshall.
–Also in the idiot department, a German hoping to fly to Sydney, Australia, somehow booked a flight to Sidney, Montana, and did not notice until his tiny commuter plane left Portland, Oregon. It occurred to him that the small plane would never reach Australia. Bravo.
—L’Avion, the new all-business-class airline flying between Newark and Paris has launched a sale — $999 round trip through March 31st. Cheap, right? Even if you’re not going to fly, it’s well worth checking out their website, which appears to be loosely translated from French (ie, "(New York) is a city that loves courage and in which danger is creative.") Living in New York, I can tell you that danger is most definitely creative.
–A fun time waster: departedflights.com. Route maps from a ton of airlines. Oh, by "fun" I mean, "if you are an airline nerd, you will find it fun."
