Island Air to Cut Flights, Employees Because of go!
Dec 5th, 2006 | By Jared BlankI’m not sure why I’m fascinated with the airline situation in Hawaii, but I am — which means that you’ll have to bear with me a bit. With the entrance of go! into the intra-Hawaii marketplace, it’s been a bit of a bloodbath over there, with fares being slashed and money being lost (and whining being heard). We’re starting to see the first casualties: Island Air has announced that it’s cutting 5 routes and 65 jobs because of the competition. Island Air was able to happily co-exist with Aloha & Hawaiian through codeshares and by staying out of their way. Hawaii is littered with failed airlines — we’ll see if Island is next.
