Diddy’s Luggage Flies on Private Jet

Aug 9th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

P Diddy (Puff Daddy, Sean Combs, etc) ran into a problem when he arrived at his chartered flight from St. Tropez to Rome — his luggage wouldn’t fit.  So, he did just what you would do:  he chartered another flight for his luggage for only $16,000.  See, the rich are just like you and me.

Plane Lands at Wrong Airport

Aug 9th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

A Spanair flight from Barcelona to Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain landed instead at Sevilla 400 miles away in the south of Spain.  It’s possible that the pilots typed SVQ (Sevilla’s airport code) into their computers instead of SCQ, the correct code.  Either way, it’s not the first time this has happened — a [...]

American Samoa Kicks Out Hawaiian Airlines

Aug 9th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

There’s a bit of a brouhaha going on in Pago Pago, American Samoa (as I read that sentence, it sounds like the beginning of a Doctor Seuss book).  Even so…The governor of American Samoa is pissed at Hawaiian Airlines for their rather high fares to the island (Hawaiian is the only connection to Hawaii).  So [...]

Flight Attendant Fired for Falling Asleep

Aug 8th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

A Ryanair flight attendant is fighting her dismissal after she was found sleeping on a flight from Dublin last May.  According to the article, "she blocked off the front row of the plane, sat down in the row and began reading a "fiction-type" book before falling asleep."  Perhaps the most interesting part is the phrase [...]

Is Delta New York’s Biggest Airline?

Aug 8th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

The WSJ (reg required, sorry) takes a look at Delta’s claims that it is "New York’s largest airline" "America’s largest airline" and/or "becoming the second-largest carrier to Latin America."  As you’ve probably guessed by now, by nearly all measures all 3 of those claims are nonsense (for New York, they exclude Newark because it’s not [...]

Aug 7th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Budapest, Hungary, used to be one of those places that just cost a fortune to get to.  Well, that’s changed.  Gate 1 Travel has a 4 night air/hotel package from New York to this beautiful city for just $499.  Dates are available in November at this price, though it’s only slightly higher to travel in [...]

US Airways Lowers Shuttle Fares to Boston

Aug 4th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Great news if you fly the shuttle between New York and Boston.  US Airways has lowered its 14-day advanced purchase fare to $100 round trip — 54% below its previous fare.  While JetBlue has similar fares available, sometimes you just don’t want to bother dragging your butt out to JFK in traffic.  (Delta has since [...]

The Sultan of Brunei’s A340

Aug 3rd, 2006 | By Jared Blank

If you care about airplanes, you may be interested in these photos of the inside of the A340 owned by the Sultan of Brunei.  2 things to know:
1) This guy likes his gold2) For whatever reason, there are somewhat pornographic advertisements on the site, for reasons I’m not quite sure about, as it’s in Russian.  [...]

Cancun for 20,000 Miles

Aug 3rd, 2006 | By Jared Blank

American Airlines has reduced the number of miles required to go drink your butt off in Cancun.  For flights August 21 through December 13, you can fly from the Continental US or Canada to Cancun for just 20,000 miles.  Sure, they may have a hurricane.  But at least you’ll be drunk.

The Gucci Bag and the Ballpoint Pen

Aug 2nd, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Two stories of nutty passengers getting kicked off planes yesterday:
A woman on a Cathay flight from Hong Kong to Tokyo refused to put her Gucci handbag under the seat in front of her during takeoff.  The plane had already begun to taxi when she got into an argument with flight attendants, causing a delay of [...]
