JetBlue Considers Slowing Aircraft Deliveries

Mar 9th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

If you were wondering whether JetBlue has been able to avoid the trap of growing too quickly, wonder no longer.  The airline is considering whether to defer some of the  airplanes it has on order for the next few years.  JetBlue is scheduled to take delivery of 17 A320s this year and in 2007, and [...]

Delta to Expand Flights at JFK

Mar 8th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Delta announced a huge expansion of its services out of JFK, including 46 new nonstops to various cities (primarily on the East Coast).  This growth will create a solid feeder network to the bankrupt airline’s fast-growing international services out of JFK.  As Pan Am learned quickly, without a feeder network into your JFK-based international flights, [...]

Airline Food in India: Chicken and Eggs Are Back!

Mar 8th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

If you’ve been flying around India lately (and who hasn’t?) you may have noticed that you couldn’t get chicken or eggs on your flight.  Or maybe you didn’t notice.  It doesn’t matter.  The foods had been pulled from airline menus due to fears about transmitting bird flu.  Worry no longer.  Indian carriers are putting chicken [...]

India’s Travel Agents Sell Tickets on Fake Air Deccan Flight

Mar 7th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

As I’ve mentioned here before, India’s airline industry is booming.  In fact, it’s booming so quickly that travel agents can’t keep track of which flights actually exist.  Travel agents in India have been selling tickets on low cost carrier Air Deccan’s new route from Kolkata to a city called Imphal.  That normally wouldn’t be an [...]

American Eagle: Fine, Soda Is Free

Mar 7th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Good news for those of you who were disgusted by American Eagle’s attempt to charge $1 for a can of soda: the American Airlines affiliate heard your complaining and once again soda will be free.  Congratulations for sticking it to the man.

Paula Abdul: Too Important for Security

Mar 6th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Paula Abdul caused a bit of a security meltdown at Las Vegas’ airport on Thursday.  Because of the legions of fans mobbing her at the airport (that’s what the article says…) she was permitted to skip the security line to board her Southwest Airlines (thrifty!) flight back to Burbank.  I could make a joke about [...]

Cheap $1 Fares to Cancun?

Mar 6th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

USA 3000 has been advertising cheap $1 fares to Cancun, a price that has made people rather excited.  But here’s the rub (and isn’t there always a rub?):  the fare is good for the outbound portion.  The return trip starts at $199.  While this is still a good deal, this is also a giant lump [...]

Northwest’s Pilots Reach Deal and Avoid Strike

Mar 6th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

In a story that I have avoided mentioning for some reason, Northwest Airilnes’ pilots have agreed to more than $350 million in givebacks, avoiding a strike that would have likely shut down the bankrupt carrier.  All’s well that ends well, I guess.

AirTran and Delta Fight Over On Time Performance

Mar 3rd, 2006 | By Jared Blank

AirTran and Delta are in a bit of a pissing match after Delta put out a press release saying that their on-time performance topped that of AirTran in Atlanta.  While this is true, it was overshadowed by Delta’s announcement yesterday that it lost $300 million in January.  Well done.  Anyway, in response, AirTran put out [...]
