The Craziest Mileage Run

For the uninitiated, a mileage run is a trip you take solely for the purpose of getting miles.  There are two types of people in the world:  people who understand this idea, and people who think this is completely insane.  Having done this once in my life (Newark-Lisbon for 1 day.  3 weeks after I got married.), I am obviously a person who understand this idea.  I am married to a person who does not understand this idea but has infinite patience for me.  I am a lucky person.

Anyway, I bring this up because over on the Flyertalk mileage run boards, there is a guy who did the following mileage run over last weekend:
(BDL = Hartford and CVG = Cincinnati)
BDL-ATL-CVG-SFO-CVG-ATL-BDL-ATL-CVG-
SFO-CVG-ATL-BDL-ATL-CVG-SFO-CVG-
ATL-BDL

More than 20,000 miles for about $450, plus double mileage because he’s elite.  I don’t know what kind of person would do this, and during the trip he appears to be ready to jump out of the plane, but he does have platinum status on Delta now.  I’m not sure what the lesson is here, but I thought you’d want to know.
