As widely expected, Delta and Northwest filed for bankruptcy yesterday (though no one expected it to happen with minutes of each other). Fuel prices are blamed for the move, but as you know, this has been in the works for quite a long time. You’re probably wondering what this means to you, the passenger. Well, here’s the good news: it probably won’t mean anything. Your frequent flyer miles are safe and flights will continue to operate as before. Carry on. If you’re an employee, however, it’s going to be a rougher road, as both airlines expect to shrink staff. As we’ve seen with United, exiting bankruptcy can be a long haul, and it’s going to be a long haul for both of these carriers to get their costs down to a reasonable level.
