American Airlines Accused of Safety Violations

Sep 9th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

American Airlines was accused of safety violations in a civil lawsuit filed by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn.  The suit comes from an FAA inspector’s report that notes he saw fuel leaking out of an American Airlines MD-82 aircraft during a flight from Orlando to New York.  The airline is accused of taking no action to fix the problem and not noting the issue in its maintenance logs.  American denies the charge and says that a mechanic found no leak.  If it makes you feel any better, the flight happened in November of 2003. (I always feel the need to note that airlines are ridiculously safe, and I’m just pointing out this story because it is news when a major airline is sued over safety violations.)
