Northwest to Suspend JFK-Tokyo Flight

Sep 8th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

Northwest Airlines announced that it will eliminate its daily JFK-Tokyo nonstop flight because of rising jet fuel costs. Northwest has faced heavy competition on the route from JAL, ANA, Continental and United.  The carrier will switch the 747-400 aircraft to its LAX-Tokyo route, which had been been served with an older 747-200 (at least that’s good news for Los Angeles passengers).  I can’t remember a US airline cancelling an international route because of fuel costs.
