British Airways Cancels All Flights at Heathrow

Aug 12th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

More than 70,000 travelers have been stranded after British Airways cancelled all flights at London Heathrow.  The move was necessary after a dispute between the airline and Gate Gourmet, which provides catering for aircraft.  That dispute led baggage handlers and ground staff to walk off in sympathy.  In turn, 100 aircraft and 1,000 pilots were not where they needed to be, leading to, basically, chaos at Heathrow.  The situation will continue through today..  Qantas and Sri Lankan flights were also cancelled.
