Quick Airline News Roundup

A few quick pieces of info to keep you up to date on the status of various airlines:

–Continental and American posted profits for the second quarter, beating Wall Street expectations. While this is obviously great news, neither airline is expected to turn a profit for the year because of rising fuel prices.

–Northwest’s mechanics have begun a 30 day cooling off period, after which they may go on strike. The airline vows to continue flying.

–Delta executives have told their CEO that a bankruptcy filing will be nearly impossible to avoid, calling their turnaround plan “futile.” Ouch.
