Northwest Mechanics Move Closer to Strike

Jul 7th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

Northwest Airlines’ mechanics asks a mediation board to release them from talks with the airline after the union said that Northwest was not taking “contract negotiations seriously.” The mechanics contend that they have already given their share of concessions to help with the airline’s financial troubles; management, on the other hand, says that the mechanics union has not made the types of givebacks that every other union has offered. In any case, this will bounce back and forth for a while with a strike vote scheduled for July 19th.
