Alaska to Buy America West?

An online article in Business Week suggested that the Alaska Air Group was interested in purchasing America West. Yes, you read that correctly. Alaska was so outraged by the story that it released a statement saying that it was not interested in getting involved with the America West and US Airways merger. Still, it’s not entirely crazy and I think the two management teams are actually quite similar—intelligent, striving on reasonable growth and focused on avoiding so many of the miscues (fare-related and otherwise) plaguing other carriers.
