United’s Super Duper Elite
May 10th, 2005 | By Jared BlankA NY Times article looks into the exclusive world of secret levels of elite frequent flyer status, focusing on United’s Global Services tier. The piece notes that these travelers are whisked through security into secret lounges so secret that United executives can’t find them. I’m not sure I even understand that part. In any case, no other carriers admit to having a super-secret level of elite status, but Delta used to have a level called the Flying Colonel, which is such a great name they have to bring it back. The point seems to be this: if you’ve reached a super-elite level, you’ll figure it out when you’re in an unmarked lounge. Or something. Reminds me of the Simpsons Stone Cutters, oddly…
do they get to dial 912?
