Your Car Rental Just Got More Expensive

Feb 15th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

It’s not exactly airline related, but Hertz announced that it will tack on a $2.50 "reservation fee" for all U.S. rentals because of increasing distribution costs.  The car company blames sites like Kayak and other so-called meta search companies for driving up the cost of distribution.  True, I suppose…In any case, i bring this up because I believe it’s only a matter of time before airlines pass on more of its distribution costs to consumers (read: consumers will pay new fees when they buy a ticket, online or off).
