Ryanair to Re-Think Onboard Movies

Feb 1st, 2005 | By Jared Blank

You may remember that last year Ryanair predicted its plan to rent handheld movieplayers would result in "enormous sums of money."  Well, that’s not how it turned out.  The airline found that people are not thrilled about paying 7 Euro ($8.50) to watch a movie on a 2-hour flight.  Shocking.  The movies were also only available in English, while Ryanair has a large non-English speaking passenger base.  To stimulate demand, the carrier is now reducing the price to 5 Euro.  If the price cut does not result in increased interest, Ryanair plans to drop the service altogether.
