Southwest to Serve Pittsburgh

Jan 6th, 2005 | By Jared Blank

In an announcement that I’m sure US Airways was dreading, Southwest said that they will begin service to Pittsburgh in May.  US Airways has about 2/3 of the Pittsburgh market right now, though that number is considerably smaller than the amount it used to control.  Southwest’s move is miserable for US Airways for 2 reasons.  First is the obvious reason that it will have to compete.  More awful is that potential financial saviors know that it will be a costly and brutal fight in Pittsburgh.  This is not good news for US Airways…duh.
