Hm…you think US Airways is having a bad year? Yes, you’re correct, they are. But so is Peru’s Nuevo Continente (formerly Aero Continente). You may remember that the airline’s flights were halted earlier this year because its founder was accused of being a drug kingpin. Then it was forced to ground 4 of its 5 aircraft for maintenance problems. Which caused them to run low on cash. Which caused its fuel suppliers to demand up-front payment, which hurt their cash reserves further. Which caused them to be unable to perform maintenance. Alas, the government has closed them down for now until it can get its aircraft situation back to normal. I do feel better knowing that the Peruvian government cares about safety. Or it may just care about protecting LanPeru. Either way.
