Getting Ugly at United

Aug 12th, 2004 | By Jared Blank

Think you’re having a bad day at work? United’s machinists’ union has called for a court to step in an assign a trustee to run the airline. The union accuses CEO Glenn Tilton of “gross mismanagement” while United’s employees have given back $2.5 billion in pay and benefits during the bankruptcy. While it’s quite rare for a court to step in and appoint a trustee, Eastern Airlines had one appointed in 1990, and Hawaiian Airlines currently has a court-appointed trustee running the carrier.
