Board Rejects $1.6 Billion United Loan

Jun 18th, 2004 | By Jared Blank

The US Air Transportation Stabilization Board rejected United’s loan application last night, though it told the airline for some reason that it can submit yet another (its 3rd) application if it would like to. There are likely many reasons why the board turned down the request, but many analysts point to statements made by United CEO Glenn Tilton suggesting, with bravado, that the airline would survive without the loan. Probably not the right thing to say. The airline, though, has been saying that they had no Plan B. I imagine Plan B will B to re-submit the loan application…and then shut the hell up.
