Heathrow Gold Heist Foiled

May 18th, 2004 | By Jared Blank

Seven men were arrested at Heathrow airport after attempting the largest gold heist in Britain’s history. The gang smashed a van through the metal gates of a warehouse to try to steal a pic-a-nic basket. No wait, that was Yogi Bear. These guys were trying to steal $71 million in gold. Police, however, were tipped off to the robbery and were awaiting the group. The largest gold heist in Britain remains a 1983 robbery that netted $46 million.
