In a completely unsurprising move, United has severed its ties with Atlantic Coast Airways. ACC had been providing United Express service out of Dulles, but announced last year that it would be re-launching as Independence Air, a low-fare carrier, after it failed to reach a financial agreement with United. United will replace the Atlantic Coast service with Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America. Shuttle America, none of you might remember, began its life flying from Trenton, NJ, to Boston’s Hanscom Field. Believe it or not, people did not want to fly from Trenton to a small airport not in Boston. Crazy. In any case, it morphed into a regional carrier for US Airways and, now, for United.
