…But first, the news.
A Fokker 50 operated by Iranian carrier Kish Airline crashed today while making a landing in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, killing at least 40 of the 45 people on board. The passengers were primarily migrant wokers returning to the UAE.
In more pleasant news, Southwest Airlines has entered the year 2001 and is now allowing passengers to print their boarding passes at home.
United has brought back its lame “fly three, get one free” promotion, with a slightly more impressive twist (it’s lame because the flights cannot include a Saturday night stay, effectively shutting out leisure travelers). In any case, if you fly six times with UA before June 15, you’ll get a free first class ticket anywhere in the lower 48. Not bad if you travel quite a bit for business.
And finally…thanks to the reader who pointed this one out to me: Canadian charter carrier HMY Airways is using Jackie Chan to endorse the company, including him in a pilot’s uniform on the homepage. Jackie Chan is known for his death-defying crashes.
