Swiss Miss, Continental Free Tickets?

Jan 21st, 2004 | By Jared Blank

SWISS is in trouble. But you knew that. Now in a cash crunch, they are seeking more than $300 million to stay afloat. In completely unrelated news, the airline announced that it is reinstating the short-haul business class service that it removed last year.

My man at USA Today’s airline blog suggests that Continental may follow United, Delta and American’s lead in offering free tickets for flights from the NYC area to Florida and California to combat JetBlue. However, Continental has said repeatedly that it believes JFK is a completely different market than Newark and, according to them, has not lost business to JetBlue. Alas, I’m 93% certain there will be no similar promotion from Continental.
