More Bad News for US Airways

Dec 19th, 2003 | By Jared Blank

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review continues to hammer US Airways, publishing an article suggesting the carrier may enter Chapter 11 for the second time. Although many have said that the airilne should have stayed in Chapter 11 longer the first time through, several folks suggest that a second bankruptcy will not help US Airways with its main problems of Southwest Airlines, labor contracts and fleet. A second bankruptcy certainly doesn’t bode well, but Continental Airlines had 2 bankruptcies in 7 years in ‘83 and ‘90. However, 3 bankruptcies and you’re out (as TWA & Braniff found out).
